It’s an exciting time in Barefoot Springs. A new adventure is coming! Barefoot Springs is the name of the fictional small town in which the Pet Sitters stories are set. (For those who aren’t familiar with the series, the Pet Sitters are a series of books I co-write with author Cecily Anne Paterson under the pen name Ella Shine.) On the first of May this year, we’re launching a brand new story called Billy Goat Boogie! This new adventure will have all the elements our young readers already expect: two best friends, one grumpy, talking cat, a new pet to pet sit (this time a dancing goat!) and plenty of chaos along the way. Like the other stories in the Pet Sitters series, Billy Goat Boogie has been illustrated by Lisa Flanagan and can be read as a stand alone title, as well as in conjunction with other books in the series. It’s a fun, fast paced and hilarious read, purrrfect for readers aged 5-8. Here’s what one of our pre-release reviewers have said…. 'Billy Goat Boogie is perfectly pitched for a newly independent reader to inhale on their own or as a hilarious and delightful read-aloud at bedtime' We know young readers (and their adults) are going to love this story!
The other exciting thing happening in the Pet Sitters world is the launch of a new Postal Pets Subscription Service! Knowing how much kids like receiving mail, and how useful series fiction can be to encourage even the most reluctant readers, we’ve combined the two ideas. In a Postal Pets subscription, young readers receive one new Pet Sitters book a month for six months (starting with Gus Makes a Fuss and ending with Billy Goat Boogie). Plus, we are creating some additional extras to accompany each mailout. Given the joy I remember from the first time I organised a subscription service for my pen-pal friend as an eleven year old, I can’t wait to send out the Postal Pets packets! It’s going to be so much fun. For more information about Billy Goat Boogie, the Pet Sitters series or Postal Pets, just head over to the Ella Shine website! (For international orders, Amazon is probably the best place to purchase.)

The Penny DropsIn high school I used to write what I'd call 'thinks' - little bits of writing about whatever topic or issue I was mulling over at the time. I still write these little pieces. Categories
