when opposites attack

What is the opposite of Anxiety?
Trust.
And they sweep together to clash mid-air, like superheros in battle.
I find myself not just the spectator, but barracking for each team in alternation.
Concerns rise up and I'm in Anxiety's camp - even though, if I'm totally honest, I don't even like the guy.
Trust, however, is a more elusive hero; humble and deflecting attention. Trust waits in his corner with Hope, and Peace and Obedience. Whereas Anxiety comes out to battle on his own.
Each day the battle heaves to be fought, clocking up another round. My life is weighed and measured as the scoreboard shifts the claim. When Anxiety wins, Faith flounders, curled in a heap with Fear and Failure. But Trust defies the betting odds. He slaps the face of Self-reliance and gains the ground for Possible. It's Trust I want to barrack for.
And not the other guy.

Hi Penny,
Thank you for your "Drop", When Opposites Attack. Im a very visual person and you gave me a wonderful picture to ponder. I have wrestled with anxiety quite a bit over the years and have only recently stopped running and hiding from it and begun to stop and look it in the eye.
I am glad I came across your path and look forward to getting to know you better through your work.

    The Penny Drops

In high school I used to write what I'd call 'thinks' - little bits of writing about whatever topic or issue I was mulling over at the time. I still write these little pieces.
I also blog a little and offer reviews of books I consider worth reading. All of these - thinks, blogs, reviews - I gather here. They're the writing that happens when the 'penny drops', or it doesn't, and I sit down with pen (or laptop) in hand...
    I hope you enjoy them.
